Located about 50-60 km from the city of Bangalore, Nandi Hills are all about tranquility and rejuvenation. It is a little known hill station which enjoys fantastic weather throughout the year. You wouldn’t find the usual tourist rush associated with other more popular hill stations here. However, what you would find here are fantastic views of the valley, and some nice trekking and cycling trails to explore. You can even try paragliding in these hills.
One of the most beautiful hill stations of the south is Coorg. Also called the “Scotland of India”, Coorg is located about 260 km from Bangalore. There are regular buses that ply to this beautiful hill station. You can take relaxing plantation walks through the many tea, coffee and spices plantations of the region; or you could explore the majestic hills of the place. Coorg too is ideal for an adventurous paragliding experience. But if you don’t want to do any of that, you can sit by the window and enjoy the captivating scenery of the place.
For the adventurous out there, and for those who are short on time, Skandgiri is the ideal getaway near Bangalore. Skandgiri, or Kalavara Durga, has the ruins of Tipu Sultan’s fort. It is one of the few places around Bangalore where a night trek is possible. The trek to the top of the hill is slightly arduous though, but definitely worth the experience. The ruins of the fort and the nearby temple add the mystic factor to the trek.
Located about 120 km from the city of Bangalore is Melukote. It is known for its rocky hills and also the Yoganarasimha Temple. The rocky terrain of the place makes it ideal for rock climbing and trekking. But if you are not the adventurous sort, you can simply switch off and enjoy the largely unexplored surroundings of the place. Pay your homage at the temple and spend time sitting by a huge lake located close to the temple.
Agumbe is one of the most scenic spots located close to Bangalore. The place is blessed with lush greenery and some seasonal waterfalls as well. It receives plenty of rainfall throughout the year, and thus, you can always expect pleasant weather here and some awesome views. The scenic hill stations also served as the shooting location of Malgudi Days. If you are looking to recharge your batteries without going too far from Bangalore, Agumbe is one of the best options.
